Jonathan “Popeye” Perez from Baranquilla, Colombia has always been on the “B” side of the ring in Mexico and the USA since he left Colombia to test his skill level out of this home country. In the US, after 2 hard defeats against Luis Rosa, Toka Kahn and 1 robbery lost to Bryant Cruz, Perez was never discouraged and continued to better himself in the gym, with trainer Gil Gastelum and manager Nelson Lopez Jr.
Perez said that every fight made him better and motivated him more and that when he won this next fight it would show he was a world class fighter as well but never given the time and chance to prepare himself properly.
“I promised Colombia, Nelson Jr (manager) and Profe Gastelum (trainer) that they would have a world class fighter and I am here to stay. I will work harder now and make sure to stay on top. I want to thank Nelson Jr, Milton Nunez and Gil Gastelum for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to come show my skills in the United States.” Perez.
Dec 11th, 2015 in Puerto Rico, Perez defeated Gamalier Rodriguez (WBO ranked super featherweight) by 8 round UD. You have to give Perez props to defeat a fellow Puerto Rican in his land by decision. Goes to say he completely dominated the fight. He applied the pressure from round 1 to round 8 and made sure the judges had him victorious.
Raynelo Management and the entire crew that help win this fight is completely proud of Popeye Perez.
Congrats to Mr. Johnathan “Popeye” Perez
